When I was a child, we had a vegetable garden in the back garden of our suburban home. I remember that today, St Patricks day was supposed to be the day when it was safe to plant because there should be no more frost, at least thats what my Father said but it might have been to stop me asking questions…. I vividly remember struggling with a shovel bigger than I was trying to dig straight rows for the potatoes.
Anyway its around this time of year that the swallows begin to arrive and a few years ago we were lucky to have a pair nest outside our kitchen window. It was a real privilege to watch them every day and then get to see the chicks leave the nest and take to the air. Hope you have a great day today celebrating St Patrick’s day whether your Irish or not!
